andARCHITECTURE wants to engage in further research on the possibilities of temporary housing concepts for students, using two problems (housing shortage amongst students & vacant office space) to make up one fantastic solution! 2 million square meters of vacant office space are momentarily unused - that is only in the Amsterdam region. We feel with the students craving for a place in the jam-packed Randstad cities, so we looked at a lot of details from building regulations to financial hinders and innovative material use and came up with solutions for affordable low-standard accommodations.
By means of do-it-yourself-building options (under supervision by craftsmen), a self-controlled management system (supervised by university and/or student organizations) and flexible, reversible interior components (bath cells, kitchen cores, electro trolleys) we want to make unused space accessible and instead of delivering a more or less glossy cell, create more of a shared living experience.
