Niet Normaal (for concern)

Commissioned by art foundation Niet Normaal and curated by Ine Gevers concern added spatiality to an art exhibition in the Beurs van Berlage in Amsterdam. The overwhelming space of the Great Hall of Berlage's masterpiece was contrasted by a lingering timber exhibition wall and the art pieces themselves. With a focus on the "abnormal" view of art on our society and codes of behavior or outward appearance the show was asking for a new sight and a questioning of the border between the usual and the unusual. We were also asked to design a new entrance, focusing on the needs of handicapped people. We came up with the "Andersvaliden" ramp, a symmetrical ramp continuing the lingering wall inside the exhibition. Needless to say that the show was an outrageous success with a lot of media attention.
